Projects and Responsibilities:  Managed Energy Efficiency Services Division staff, managed division budget, wrote and applied for grants, developed proposals in response to RFPs, managed grants received, marketed Local Government Energy Bank Program to member cities, marketed IAMU Internet services to members, developed Internet home pages for members, assisted utilities in writing and implementing their energy efficiency plans, designed residential energy efficiency program for small utilities, developed workshops and presentations, and wrote energy efficiency articles for monthly newsletter and quarterly Energizer.

(Reduce Swimming Pool Energy Costs) program (wrote and developed six fact sheets and a brochure marketing the program, software development assistance, presentations to national groups, planned and manned exhibits at national conventions, wrote script and produced unique slide-tape show marketing the RSPEC! program), Regional Coordinator of DOE's Rebuild America program (commercial energy retrofit program), staff person responsible for Model Energy Code implementation and HERS and EEMs promotion, member of DOE's MEC proposal review committee, consultant on Fish & Wildlife passive solar visitor's center at Fort Carson, supervised writing and edited report on efficient transportation options for accessing the new Denver International Airport, and designed new office space, ordered and installed new office systems and helped coordinate the relocation of the Denver Support Office.

Responsibilities included: Unit Leader of Energy Planning Unit, supervising two full-time staff and a college intern, coordinating Iowa's Comprehensive Energy Plan development and the implementation of Iowa's Home Energy Rating System, planning and managing energy programs, coordinating the preparation of the Energy Bureau's State Energy Conservation Program and Energy Extension Service Plan and quarterly reports for the Department of Energy, preparing the Energy Bureau's annual operating budget, overseeing the purchase, installation, and use of the Energy Bureau's computer systems, designing computer spreadsheets and databases to organize and track energy projects, occasional speaking engagements on energy retrofit and energy efficient construction, responding to consumer energy retrofit and energy efficient construction questions, and designed new office layout and coordinated office systems ordering and installation on up to three occasions.

Responsibilities included: Coordinator of the Energy Hotline, responding to 5-10,000 calls/year, researching and writing publications, speaking to home builders, consumer groups, and conferences, preparing slide presentations on energy retrofit and energy conscious construction, designing home show displays and attending home shows, fairs, and home builder conventions, organizing the Hotline reference and slide libraries, informational and product filing systems, and basic computer programming.

Work has included: Residential energy efficient new home designs, log home designs, sunspace designs, and other remodeling. Several new homes were guaranteed by the builder to heat and cool for less than $100 per year. Currently designing new homes with a computer aided design (CAD) system. Architectural photography services have included: Preferred Construction Services, Inc., and the Des Moines Pella Window Store.
Web site development has included the design of the National Association of State Energy Officials, the Residential Energy Services Network, Energy Rated Homes of Iowa, American Lung Association of Iowa's Healthy House, Crossroads International Communications, and the DOE Reduce Swimming Pool Energy Costs home pages.
